Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Police say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered numerous other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report initial examinations indicate the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no clue as to where it came from; authorities are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the community for information.
An important official said the incident rendered him stunned and required to be solved promptly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he posted on social media, recalling the death of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
